A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to invasive species.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $750,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 to the Hawaii ant lab of the Pacific cooperative studies unit of the university of Hawaii, to support mitigation of the little fire ant, which shall be allocated as follows:
(1) $650,000 for six full-time equivalent (6.0 FTE) positions to maintain on-going statewide mitigation activities, vehicle and operating costs of public outreach and treatment, ant baits, field equipment and personal protective equipment, and computers and printers; and
(2) $100,000 for one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position to expand mitigation and community support activities in West Hawaii.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the university of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2018.
