A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to the department of public safety.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 353C-3, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
"[[]§353C-3[]] Deputy directors; appointment. (a)
The director shall appoint, without regard to chapter 76, [three]
two deputy directors to serve at the director's pleasure. Unless otherwise assigned by the director,
one deputy director shall oversee the correctional programs and facilities of
the department[, one deputy director shall oversee the law enforcement
programs of the department,] and one deputy director shall oversee
administration of the department.
(b) In addition to the deputy directors pursuant
to subsection (a), there shall be a deputy director to oversee the law
enforcement programs of the department ("deputy of law enforcement"). The deputy of law enforcement shall be
appointed under or in the manner provided in section 6, article V, of the state
constitution."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
