HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING ADVENTIST HEALTH CASTLE ON RECEIVING THE 2017 MALCOLM BALDRIGE NATIONAL QUALITY AWARD.

WHEREAS, ADVENTIST HEALTH CASTLE began its operations in 1963 as a result of a community led campaign to build a hospital that served Windward residents; and

WHEREAS, the local community, Castle Ranch, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church donated to the construction of the hospital, which opened with seventy-two beds and fourteen bassinets under its original name, Castle Memorial Hospital; and

WHEREAS, in the years since opening, the hospital has seen new programs and services, as well as new names; but the dedication to their patients and the community has remained the same as their outstanding quality and care has advanced; and

WHEREAS, ADVENTIST HEALTH CASTLE ranks in the top ten percent in the nation for disease prevention and treatment programs, and in the two years prior to receiving the award, the hospital improved performance on measures of safety, evidence-based care, and mortality related to its clinical care processes; and

WHEREAS, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is given by the President of the United States to recognize exemplary practices among American organizations and businesses dedicated to radical innovation, thoughtful leadership, and administrative improvement; and

WHEREAS, ADVENTIST HEALTH CASTLE is one of four organizations in the nation to be honored with the 2017 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award; and

WHEREAS, the Award is the result of collective efforts of staff, physicians, volunteers, and partners who have pursued excellence in delivering quality care to advance the areas of leadership, strategy, and customer service, with the strategies implemented to achieve their level of excellence being used to educate leaders in business, education, health care, government, and nonprofit agencies; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, that this body hereby applauds the commitment to excellence of ADVENTIST HEALTH CASTLE, the recipient of the prestigious 2017 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and expresses to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
