HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the City and County of Honolulu to use the Wai‘Anae sustainable Communities Plan when approving planning permits issued for developments on the Wai‘anae Coast.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, Wai‘anae is one of the most historic and culturally rich areas of Oahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, the development of communities on Leeward Oahu, including along the Wai‘anae coast, has steadily increased in the past decades; and

 

     WHEREAS, a revised Wai‘anae Sustainable Communities Plan was prepared and published in March of 2012, which presents a vision for Wai‘anae's future development and consists of policies, guidelines, and conceptual schemes that serve as a policy guide; and

 

     WHEREAS, the City and County of Honolulu has adopted the Wai‘anae Sustainable Communities Plan but has not referenced the plan when issuing permits for development along the Wai‘anae coast; and

 

     WHEREAS, while providing services to new developments must be addressed to ensure adequate infrastructure for these new developments, equally important is the impact that these new developments and the need for more infrastructure will have on existing adjoining communities and regions; and

 

     WHEREAS, utilizing the Wai‘anae Sustainable Communities Plan in the development of the Wai‘anae coast can best serve the constituents living in that area and support the recognition of places such as the Ohikilolo and Kanehunamoku wahi pana as having unique cultural and historical value of the aina; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-ninth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2018, that the City and County of Honolulu is urged to use the Wai‘anae Sustainable Communities Plan, published in March of 2012, when approving planning permits issued for developments on the Wai‘anae coast; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor and the Director of Planning and Permitting of the City and County of Honolulu.
