Sir:

 

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 1507, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO CROSSWALKS,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to:

 

(1)  Establish within the Department of Transportation a two-year Community Crosswalks Pilot Program (Pilot Program), which shall design and implement, in collaboration with the appropriate county departments and agencies, a specially painted crosswalk that represents a neighborhood's unique culture and promotes pedestrian safety;

 

(2)  Establish a Community Crosswalks Special Fund for the Pilot Program;

 

(3)  Allow moneys in the Safe Routes to School Program Special Fund to be used for the Pilot Program; and

 

(4)  Make appropriations for the Pilot Program.  

 

     The Department of Transportation opposed this measure.  The Department of Budget and Finance provided comments.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1507, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
