     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 1448, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO SCHOOL MEALS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to require the Department of Education to provide free school meals to children who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, based on the United States Department of Agriculture's most current income eligibility guidelines.

The Department of Education, Hawaii Children's Action Network, Hawaii State Teachers Association, and Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice supported this measure.   

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 1448, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
