A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO the order of hawaii medal.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that there are certain individuals each year whose meritorious service have brought high honor to the State of Hawaii. The legislature further finds that such individuals through their outstanding achievements have significantly impacted the scientific, technical, business, educational, or cultural fields, and other aspects. These selfless individuals should be recognized for their contribution to the improvement of life in Hawaii in ineffable ways.
The purpose of this Act is to create an order of Hawaii medal.
SECTION 2. Chapter 5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§5- Order of Hawaii medal. (a) There is created the order of Hawaii medal to be awarded to those individuals who have brought high honor to the State of Hawaii through their meritorious service or outstanding achievements which have significantly impacted the scientific, technical, medical, business, educational, or cultural fields in Hawaii, or other societal values of our State.
(b) The design of the order of Hawaii medal and the criteria for awarding the medal shall be in the discretion of the governor.
(c) The governor may designate up to five individuals per year to be awarded the order of Hawaii medal."
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
