A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING to invasive species.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $360,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2017-2018 to the Hawaii ant lab of the Pacific cooperative studies unit of the University of Hawaii, to support mitigation of the little fire ant, which shall be allocated as follows:
(1) $240,000 for two full-time equivalent (2.0 FTE) operator positions and one full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) supervisor position;
(2) $40,000 for a vehicle and operating costs of public outreach and treatment;
(3) $60,000 for ant baits;
(4) $15,000 for field equipment and personal protective equipment; and
(5) $5,000 for computers and printers.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2017.
