Appropriates funds to the department of human services to create one full-time program specialist position for Maui county within the adult protective and community services branch to oversee the foster grandparent program and senior companion programs on Maui, Molokai, and Lanai.

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SENIOR CENTERS.

Makes appropriations for grants to various senior centers.

RELATING TO TAXATION.

Provides a taxpayer who hires an elderly individual a nonrefundable tax credit for the six-month period after the individual is initially hired by the taxpayer.

RELATING TO HUMAN SERVICES.

Requires the department of human services to disregard subsidies received directly by an applicant or recipient or payments made on behalf of or directly to an applicant or recipient of public assistance from the section 8 housing voucher program of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for purposes of qualifying for the supplemental nutrition assistance program.

RELATING TO MEDICAID PROVIDERS.

Authorizes health care providers under the state medicaid program to ask about supplemental nutrition assistance program (food stamp) participation on medicaid certification and re-certification forms.

RELATING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

Removes certain unnecessary and redundant reporting responsibilities of the family courts and the department of human services in cases where temporary restraining orders are sought for alleged domestic abuse involving a family or household member who is a minor or incapacitated person.

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO HEALTH.

Extends the date by which the Department of Health must post inspection reports for state-licensed care facilities by six months and increases the number of days to post the reports, as recommended by a legislative task force.
