Since 2006, the Department of Health has been authorized to form domestic violence fatality review teams to conduct multidisciplinary and multiagency reviews of domestic fatalities. In 2015, Act 203 was enacted, mandating the conduct of these reviews to include domestic violence fatalities, near-deaths, and suicides to reduce the incidence of preventable intimate partner deaths.
The purpose of this Informational Briefing is to receive an update on the progress, findings, and proposed recommendations for systems reform from the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team that has been convened by the
Department of Health.
Guests invited to speak at this Information Briefing include:
· Douglas Chin, Esq., Attorney General;
· Danette Wong Tomiyasu, Deputy Director, Department of Health, Health Resources Administration;
· Don Hayes, MD, MPH, Epidemiologist, Department of Health, Family Services Division;
· Nanci Kreidman, Chief Executive Officer, Domestic Violence Action Center;
· Domestic violence survivor, guest of the Domestic Violence Action Center; and,
· Cathy Betts, JD, Executive Director, Hawai‘i State Commission on the Status of Women.
No public testimony will be accepted.
