RELATING TO THE STATE LIBRARIAN'S SALARY.

Increases the salary cap on the State Librarian position.

RELATING TO TECHNOLOGY IN SCHOOLS.

Defines curricular materials to include both printed and digital material.  Requires textbook manufacturers to make a digital format of the textbook available for use in public schools.  Clarifies that moneys for curricular materials can be used for digital formats.  Appropriates funds.

RELATING TO STUDENT DATA MANAGEMENT.

Limits the ways in which the operator of a website, online service, online application, or mobile application working with the DOE can use student data.

Allows outside food to be served in Department of Education cafeterias on special occasions.

RELATING TO STUDENT MEALS.

Prohibits denying a student a meal for the first: (1) thirty days of a semester while the student's application for free or reduced lunch is being processed; or (2) week the student's meal fund balance is zero or negative.  Authorizes DOE to adopt rules or policies on the collection of funds for negative student meal balances.

Status

RELATING TO EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

Allows home schooled students to participate on an equal basis in extracurricular activities offered at the public school they would otherwise be required to attend.

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  Testimony should indicate:

·     Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·     The Committee(s) to which the comments are directed;

·     The date and time of the hearing; and

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website.  This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
