Your Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs, to which was referred H.B. No. 2180 entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The Judiciary, the Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikōlani College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, University of Hawaii Institute of Hawaiian Language Research and Translation, the University of Hawai‘i Maui College, the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, Kamehameha Schools, members of the Hawaiian Language Task Force, Hale Kuamo‘o Language Center, Department of Land and Natural Resources Aha Moku Advisory Committee, Ho‘omana Pono, LLC, and numerous individuals testified in support of this measure. Kalihi Palama Hawaiian Civic Club supported this measure with comments. Center for Hawaiian Sovereignty Studies testified in opposition of this measure.
Your Committee has amended this measure by:
(1) Changing the appropriation amount from $500,000 to an unspecified amount to facilitate further discussion; and
(2) Adding an effective date of December 24, 2088.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 2180, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass Second Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 2180, H.D. 1, and be referred to your Committee on Finance.
