A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 52D-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:
"§52D-2 Chief of police. A chief
of police shall be appointed and may be removed as prescribed by the charter of
each county[.]; provided that the mayor of each county shall also
have authority to remove the respective county chief of police for good and
just cause, upon approval by the police commission. The chief of police
shall annually make a report to the police commission on the state of affairs
and condition of the police department."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
