HOUSE RESOLUTION
Congratulating WINSTON SAKURAI as the 2016 nassp hawaii principal of the year, MALAEA WETZEL as the 2015 naesp HAWAII NATIONAL DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPAL, DEAN CEVALLOS AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2016 MASAYUKI TOKIOKA EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AWARD, and KAELEPULU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HAHAIONE elementary school, and PALISADES elementary school as 2015 hawaii blue ribbon schools.
WHEREAS, WINSTON SAKURAI, the Principal at Hanalani Upper School, is the 2016 National Association of Secondary School Principals Hawaii Principal of the Year, as a result of his extraordinary dedication and passion to improving the school's college acceptance rates and ensuring that students develop essential skills to succeed, which has resulted in a 100 percent college acceptance rate for the last 5 years; and
WHEREAS, MALAEA WETZEL, the Principal at Haleiwa Elementary School, is the 2015 National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principal, as a result of her commitment and leadership, which has increased student achievement and test scores; and
WHEREAS, DEAN CEVALLOS, the Principal at Kea‘au High School, is the 2016 Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award recipient, as a result of his programs to decrease school suspensions and improve college acceptance rates; and
WHEREAS, KAELEPULU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has increased student performance through the use of problem solving, life skills, and Instructional Leadership Teams to evaluate student performance, meriting KAELEPULU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's status as a 2015 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; and
WHEREAS, HAHAIONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's success is based upon the empowerment of its students and the International Baccalaureate World School program, which has led to impressive scholastic progression in the student body as a whole, earning the school a 2015 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School Award; and
WHEREAS, PALISADES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has served the Pearl City community since 1965; the school supports lifelong learning and provides students with the instruction needed to succeed and live up to their full potential, which merits PALISADES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's status as a 2015 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors WINSTON SAKURAI, MALAEA WETZEL, DEAN CEVALLOS, KAELEPULU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, HAHAIONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND PALISADES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to all of them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
