RELATING TO AGRICULTURE.

Appropriates $750,000 in funds from the environmental response, energy, and food security tax for the operations of the Aina Institute for Bioconversion Technology.  Effective July 1, 2013.  (HB491 HD1)

Renames the Department of Agriculture the Department of Food and Agriculture.

RELATING TO AGRICULTURE.

Prioritizes and promotes the production of nutritious agricultural produce for human consumption, excluding seed.  Effective January 1, 2015.

RELATING TO AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.

Establishes a new chapter for the Hawaii youth agricultural corps under the department of agriculture.  Appropriates funds to the department of agriculture for support of the Hawaii youth agricultural corps.

RELATING TO AGRICULTURE.

Establishes an agricultural development and food security program.  Establishes state planning objectives to increase demand and access to locally grown foods.  Establishes on-farm mentoring program.  Makes appropriations.  Effective July 1, 2014.

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW

 

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing.  Testimony should indicate:

·     Testifier's name with position/title and organization;

·     The Committee(s) to which the comments are directed;

·     The date and time of the hearing; and

·     Measure number. 

 

While every effort will be made to incorporate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

 

Submit testimony in ONE of the following ways:

PAPER:  Three (3) copies (including an original) to Room 313 in the State Capitol;

FAX:       For testimony less than 5 pages in length, transmit to 808-586-6121 (Oahu) or 1-800-535-3859 (for Neighbor Islander without a computer to submit testimony through e-mail or the Web); or

WEB:      For testimony less than 10MB in size, transmit from http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/submittestimony.aspx.

 

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website.  This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
