SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
URGING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO CONCLUDE CONSIDERATION OF DOCKET 2013-0168 AND DOCKET 2013-0169 AND ISSUE ANY APPROPRIATE DECISION AND ORDER NO LATER THAN AUGUST 30, 2014.
WHEREAS, Act 165, Session Laws of Hawaii 2012 (Act 165), established the regulatory structure under which interisland undersea transmission cables can be developed, financed, and constructed; and
WHEREAS, grid-to-grid connections are necessary to go beyond the existing Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative goals; and
WHEREAS, Docket 2013-0168, instituting a proceeding to review the progress of Castle & Cooke Resorts, LLC's proposed Lanai Wind Project, was filed on July 11, 2013, and is still open; and
WHEREAS, Docket 2013-0169, opening a proceeding to investigate whether an Oahu-Maui interisland transmission system may be in the public interest, was filed on July 11, 2013, and is still open; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Public Utilities Commission is urged to conclude consideration of Docket 2013-0168 and Docket 2013-0169 and issue any appropriate Decision and Order no later than August 30, 2014; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Public Utilities Commission; Mayor of Maui County; Lanai Island Holdings, LLC; Castle & Cooke Hawai‘i, Inc.; and the Executive Directors of Friends of Lāna‘i, Lanaians for Sensible Growth, Lāna‘i Community Association, Lāna‘i Cultural and Heritage Center, and Kupa‘a nō Lāna‘i.
