A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to HEALTH.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the Hawaii health connector is the online health insurance exchange for Hawaii. In August 2012, the Hawaii health connector received a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. This grant will enable the connector to meet several new federal milestones. In November 2012, the connector announced it submitted its blueprint application, one of the requirements for full implementation of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, to the United States Department of Health and Human Services two weeks ahead of the original deadline.
The legislature further finds that the Hawaii health connector has been working as quickly as possible to meet federal milestones, get fully staffed, and maintain frequent communication with community stakeholders, all in preparation for the launch of the online health insurance marketplace in January 2014.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to support the continued operations of the Hawaii health connector.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2013-2014 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 to support the continued operations of the Hawaii health connector.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of commerce and consumer affairs for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.
