A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 269, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part III to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§269‑   Request for new service; verification of legal occupancy. No public utility shall provide services to a person or entity until the person or entity has verified to the public utility by means of a current rental or lease agreement, property deed, or other reliable means of verification of legal occupancy, that the person or entity requesting the services is the legal owner or legal occupant of the property or authorized agent occupying the property."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
