S.B. NO.

2473

TWENTY-SEVENTH LEGISLATURE, 2014

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to personal information.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that Act 195, Session Laws of Hawaii 2013, is scheduled to sunset on July 31, 2014.  The legislature further finds that Act 195 was intended to help ensure that age-restricted goods and services are not purchased by underage individuals by specifying that the machine-readable zone of an individual's Hawaii identification card or driver's license may be scanned to verify age, if the business has a reasonable doubt of the individual having reached the minimum age required for purchasing the age-restricted goods or services.

Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to further ensure that age-restricted goods and services are not purchased by underage individuals by repealing the sunset date of Act 195, Session Laws of Hawaii 2013.

SECTION 2.  Act 195, Session Laws of Hawaii 2013, is amended by amending section 3 to read as follows:

"SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval[; provided that on July 31, 2014, this Act shall be repealed and section 487J-6(a), Hawaii Revised Statutes, shall be reenacted in the form in which it read on the day prior to the effective date of this Act]."

SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.

SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
