HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

commending and congratulating keith y. tamashiro upon his promotion to the rank of brigadier general.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, strong and capable leaders are needed to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of our citizenry; and

 

     WHEREAS, true leadership is a quality that must be earned from peers through tenacity, perseverance, and the willingness to stand for principles and goals; and

 

     WHEREAS, in the words of former General of the Army Omar Nelson Bradley:

 

     “Dependability, integrity, the characteristic of never knowingly doing anything wrong, that you would never cheat anyone, that you would give everybody a fair deal.  Character is a sort of an all-inclusive thing.  If a man has character, everyone has confidence in him.”; and

 

     WHEREAS, no one better epitomizes “dependability”, “integrity”, and “character” than KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO; and

 

     WHEREAS, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, but having long family ties to Wahiawa, Central Oahu, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO has been a resident of the State of Hawaii for the past thirty years; and

 

     WHEREAS, initially commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate in the Field Artillery through the ROTC program at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO served on active duty from 1984 to 1988 as a Company Field Support Officer, Battery Fire Direction Officer, Battery Executive Officer, Battalion S1 and Battalion Fire Support Officer; and

 

     WHEREAS, in December 1988, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO left active duty and joined the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery of the Hawaii Army National Guard, where he served as the Battalion Fire Direction Officer, Batter Commander (B Btry), Plans Officer, battalion Fire Support Officer, Battalion S3 and Battalion XO; and

 

     WHEREAS, on April 7, 2001, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO assumed command of the 1st Battalion, 487th Field Artillery and served as Battalion Commander for over five years; and

 

     WHEREAS, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO led the battalion as part of the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom in 2004 where in addition to commanding the battalion, he was the base camp commander for over 2,100 personnel at the Kuwait Naval Base while also managing soldiers spread out over three different locations in Iraq; and

 

     WHEREAS, relinquishing command in July 2007, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO was reassigned as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Joint Forces Headquarters; and

 

     WHEREAS, on July 8, 2007, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO assumed command of the 298th Regional Training Institute Multifunctional Training Unit where he was responsible for the Officer Candidate Program, NCOES and MOSQ courses; and

 

     WHEREAS, in May 2010, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO assumed a second Major Subordinate Command as the Brigade Commander for the 20th Infantry Brigade Combat Team; and

 

     WHEREAS, in February 2012, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO relinquished command and was reassigned as the G2/Assistant Land Component Commander for the Hawaii Army National Guard; and

 

     WHEREAS, on June 1, 2013, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO was assigned to his current position as the Assistant Adjutant General and Director of the Joint Staff for the Hawaii National Guard; and

 

     WHEREAS, on March 5, 2014, before his friends, family, and colleagues, KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General at a ceremony held at the Hawaii State Capitol; and

 

     WHEREAS, on behalf of a grateful State of Hawaii, the House of Representatives recognizes KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO for exemplary conduct, leadership, and character befitting the best and brightest that we have to offer; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-Seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that this body hereby commends and congratulates KEITH Y. TAMASHIRO on his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General and extends to him and his wife, the former Iwalani (Iwie) Kaninau, its warmest ALOHA and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Adjutant General of the State of Hawaii, and Brigadier General Keith Y. Tamashiro.
