HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

COMMENDING, HONORING, AND CONGRATULATIng five maoli artists for serving their community and contributing to the overall well-being of the state of hawaii and expressing to them this body's appreciation for exemplifying the depth, breadth, and diversity of the native hawaiian arts community.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii State House of Representatives is proud to recognize those exceptional individuals whose lives are filled with respect for ancestry and cultural origin and who honor their heritage by sharing Native Hawaiian culture and art with the people of Hawaii and the rest of the world; and

 

     WHEREAS, SOLOMON ENOS grew up in Makaha and is dedicated to translating a deep love of place and people through his works of art and through personal exploration; and

 

     WHEREAS, SHARON LUM HO has engaged in creating different forms of art, such as woodcarvings, prints, drawings, and paintings; and

 

     WHEREAS, HANALEI HOPFE is a gifted artisan best known for his stone carvings and his tireless efforts to improve conditions along the Leeward Coast of Oahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, MINNIE KAAWALOA, a master lauhala weaver, continues to weave hala and has passed on her positive attitude to her family and those around her; and

 

     WHEREAS, MELEANNA ALULI MEYER, an artist and educator, has developed culturally grounded creative experiences for thousands of children in Hawaii; now, therefore,


 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that this body hereby commends, honors, and congratulates these five maoli artists for serving their community and contributing to the overall well-being of the State; expresses to them its appreciation for exemplifying the depth, breadth, and diversity of the Native Hawaiian arts community; and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
