HOUSE RESOLUTION
urgING the Council OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU not to designate residential housing as a permitted use within the P-2 general preservation district.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the City and County of Honolulu's Land Use Ordinance, the purpose of the preservation districts is to manage major open space and recreation lands and lands of scenic and other natural resource value; and
WHEREAS, permitted uses within the P-2 general preservation district include aquaculture, forestry, crop production, game preserves, livestock grazing, and cemeteries; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of Resolution No. 14-20 of the Council of the City and County of Honolulu is to amend the Land Use Ordinance by including low-density residential housing as a permitted use within the P-2 general preservation district; and
WHEREAS, land within the P-2 general preservation district provides visual relief and contrast to the city's built environment and serves as outdoor space for the public's use and enjoyment; and
WHEREAS, it is critical that the State preserves the green space and lifestyle that Hawaii's citizens and visitors value; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that this body urges the Council of the City and County of Honolulu not to designate residential housing as a permitted use within the P-2 general preservation district; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to each of the members of the Council of the City and County of Honolulu.
