HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the legislative reference bureau to convene a working group and examine ways to streamline the PROCESS FOR naming public lands and facilities.
WHEREAS, the process of naming public lands and facilities varies among state agencies; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature sometimes names public facilities; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for clarity about the process for naming public lands and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature wants to consider the feasibility of streamlining and unifying the process for naming public lands and facilities; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the Senate concurring, that the Legislative Reference Bureau is requested to convene a working group to investigate and report on current state processes for naming public lands and facilities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the working group include:
(1) One member of the House of Representatives designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives;
(2) One member of the Senate designated by the President of the Senate;
(3) One Native Hawaiian expert designated by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs;
(4) Representatives from any state agencies that name public lands and facilities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the working group is requested to prepare a report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, regarding the potential for streamlining and unifying the process for naming public lands and facilities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the working group is requested to submit the report to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2015; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau.
