A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The purpose of this Act is to exempt Hawaii public housing authority from the requirements of section 40-82, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to allow the removal from its accounts receivable records, accounts for vacated units in state low-income housing projects that are delinquent for at least ninety days, similar to the exemptions allowed for federal low-income housing projects, subject to certain conditions.
SECTION 2. Chapter 356D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§356D- Delinquent accounts. Accounts for vacated units in state low-income public housing projects that are delinquent for at least ninety days may be assigned to a collection agency; provided that the authority, with the approval of the attorney general, may delete from its accounts receivable records delinquent accounts for vacated units in state low-income public housing projects that have been delinquent for at least ninety days as provided under this section."
SECTION 3. This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.
SECTION 4. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
