A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to invasive species.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that invasive species can wreak havoc on Hawaii's fragile ecosystem, environment, and agricultural lands.  The legislature further finds that the Hawaii invasive species council provides valuable and necessary direction and guidance to the State regarding invasive species issues.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the Hawaii invasive species council to be used for education regarding and the prevention and eradication of invasive species on the island of Hawaii.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $2,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 to the Hawaii invasive species council for the purposes of education regarding and the prevention and eradication of invasive species on the island of Hawaii.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2014.
