A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to capital improvement projects for the benefit of the twenty-first representative district.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The following sums, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act, are hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal year 2013-2014:
1. To be expended by the department of education:
A. Ala Wai elementary school, Oahu
Equipment for the addition of eight security cameras to the current security system.

B. Ala Wai elementary school, Oahu
Plans, design, and construction for a covered walkway between the main office and the cafeteria.

C. Kaimuki middle school, Oahu
Plans, design, and construction for the resurfacing and extending of the basketball courts on the southeast corner of the campus.

Plans, design, and construction to pave the gravel parking lot on the makai side of the gym, including the fire lane and fire access, all the way up to the fence.

Plans, design, and construction for a multipurpose classroom building that will include two open classroom areas without permanent partitions to allow flexible use and a group gathering and performance area.

Plans, design, construction, and equipment for the installation of a grass and irrigation system for Leahi field.

Plans, design, construction, and equipment for the renovation and retrofitting of an existing classroom to create a STEM lab (used for purposes including, but not limited to aquaponics, renewable energy, and robotics experiments). Renovations and retrofitting including appropriate work space, countertops, electrical and water supplies, presentation equipment, and computer hardware and software.

H. Washington middle school, Oahu
Plans and designs for an assessment of an appropriate location on campus where a one-thousand seat auditorium could be built. Plans will include designs for two art studios as well as stages.

and designs for a performing arts complex, including: an art and band room,
retrofitting an existing band room to create a Hawaiian language and culture
room, and retrofitting the orchestra and chorus room to construct a new dance

SECTION 2. The sums appropriated for the respective capital projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the designated expending agency for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.
