The purpose of this briefing is to provide the legislature with an update on the implementation of Act 203 (2012),  Relating to Transportation, which protects consumers and legitimate businesses from unauthorized transportation services rendered for compensation by establishing a new criminal offense for these activities.

 

The following presenters will provide an update of the ACT; discuss solutions and alternatives to address the problems that currently exist and their resolutions:

 

                    1)     James Stone, Attorney assisting Visitor Transit Coalition, an ad hoc organization of major       

                             transportation organizations in Hawaii

 

                    2)     Conklin Nakamura, Vice-Chair - Visitor Transit Coalition

 

                    3)     Hermina Morita, Chair - State of Hawaii, Public Utilities Commission

 

                    4)     Jon Karamatsu - City & County of Honolulu, Department of the Prosecuting Attorney

 

                    5)     Major Cary Okimoto - City & County of Honolulu, Police Department

 

                    6)     Michael Formby - City & County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services
