The purpose of this informational briefing is for the Council of State Government Justice Center (CSG) to provide an update to the Legislature on their analyses progress on Justice Reinvestment.

Following the enactment of the Justice Reinvestment Act in June 2012, the CSG Justice Center has provided continued technical assistance to the State of Hawaii at the state’s request. To implement the Justice Reinvestment Act, in the FY 2013 budget, the State of Hawaii reinvested $3.4 million in treatment programs, staff positions, and implementation support. The state also requested federal funding in the amount of $367,767 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to support training of state employees in best practices and upgrades to critical data systems. The purpose of this informational briefing is for the Council of State Governments Justice Center (CSG Justice Center) to present an update on the progress of implementing the Justice Reinvestment Act of 2012. Specifically the CSG Justice Center will review the intended impact of the policies that were enacted and review data that measure Hawaii's early progress toward realizing those goals.

Presenters invited to speak are as follows:

Marshall Clement, Director of State Initiatives, CSG Justice Center

Bree Derrick, Senior Policy Analyst, CSG Justice Center
