RELATING TO FORENSIC MENTAL HEALTH.

Amends the penal code provisions that affect adult mental health and the Hawaii State Hospital census.

RELATING TO HEALTH.

Adds definition for "aspartame".  Requires a warning label for all food products containing aspartame that are offered for sale or distribution in the State.

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO HEALTH.

Prohibits the manufacture, sale, or distribution of child care products and toys for young children that contain bisphenol-A or phthalates beginning 1/1/2014.  Requires manufacturers to choose safe alternatives.  Prohibits the use of packages and packaging containing lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium beginning 1/1/2014.  Prohibits the Hawaii health systems corporation from purchasing and using vinyl intravenous solution bags and vinyl tubing beginning 1/1/2014.

RELATING TO THE HAWAII HOME VISITING PROGRAM.

Establishes a statewide hospital-based early identification and  home visiting system to enhance health and safety outcomes, and prevent child abuse and neglect; and appropriates funds to the department of health to administer the program.

RELATING TO HEALTH WELLNESS PROGRAMS.

Amends the definition of "something of value" to clarify that participation in health wellness programs is not considered gambling or lottery participation under the Hawaii penal code.

SB 608

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO MEDICINE.

Requires the Hawaii medical board to set content standards for physician continuing education regarding prevention and treatment of chronic disease through changes in nutrition and lifestyle.  Requires the board to disseminate information on the subject to physicians and hospitals in the State.  Directs the board to assemble a working group to discuss nutrition and lifestyle behavior for the treatment and prevention of chronic disease at a board meeting before July 1, 2016.
