Your Committees on Education and Higher Education, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 120, S.D. 2, entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO EVALUATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A PLAN TO PROMOTE GREATER AWARENESS OF DYSLEXIA AND PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA AND OTHER LITERACY CHALLENGES,"
beg leave to report as follows:
The purpose and intent of this measure is to promote greater awareness of dyslexia and provide support for students with dyslexia and other literacy challenges by requesting the Board of Education and Department of Education to evaluate efforts to address dyslexia and literacy challenges statewide.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the County of Maui Police Department, the Hawaii Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools, the Hawaii Learning Resource, Assets School, the Special Education Advisory Council, and numerous individuals.
The Department of Education supported the intent of this measure.
As affirmed by the records of votes of the members of your Committees on Education and Higher Education that are attached to this report, your Committees concur with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 120, S.D. 2, and recommend its adoption.
