SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the department of education to conduct a needs-based assessment and a feasibility study for a new school in Hawaiian paradise park.
WHEREAS, according to the 2010 U.S. Census, the population of Hawaiian Paradise Park in the County of Hawaii grew from 7,051 to 11,404, or 61.7 percent, between 2000 and 2010; and
WHEREAS, access to early childhood education and learning opportunities in nearby elementary schools can play a vital role in helping young children build a strong educational foundation; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Paradise Park's population growth has increasingly strained the elementary schools serving Hawaiian Paradise Park; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Education is requested to conduct a needs-based assessment and a feasibility study for a new elementary school serving Hawaiian Paradise Park; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education is requested to submit the findings and recommendations of its assessment and study, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2014; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the
Board of Education and the Superintendent of Education.
