HOUSE RESOLUTION
recognizing the outstanding entertainers of the hawaiian room in new york city.
WHEREAS, while the natural beauty of Hawaii is recognized throughout the world, the real beauty of our island state lies in the people of the State and their organizations, whose dedicated efforts have created the prosperity and high standards of living enjoyed by all; and
WHEREAS, from 1937 to 1966, the HAWAIIAN ROOM in the Lexington Hotel in New York City served as a gathering place for those with Hawaii ties to share their knowledge and broaden the exposure of the Hawaiian culture and practices throughout the East Coast; and
WHEREAS, although the Lexington Hotel is located in New York City, it played an integral role in sharing and perpetuating Hawaiian culture and traditions; the HAWAIIAN ROOM was the hub of all things Hawaiian in the Big Apple, and its performers were ambassadors of Hawaii to the rest of the world; and
WHEREAS, the HAWAIIAN ROOM gained recognition for its sensational performances, which included Hawaiian dance, song, and the celebration of Hawaiian culture with a plethora of diverse individuals, worldwide; and
WHEREAS, for 30 years, the HAWAIIAN ROOM, lush
with palm trees, bamboo, tapas, coconuts, and a periodic tropical rainstorm,
allowed an international audience to experience the essence of Hawaii, with
island-style food, Hawaiian ambience and scenery, and most importantly, Hawaiian
hula and mele; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh
Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body
hereby extends its heartfelt gratitude to the entertainers of the HAWAIIAN ROOM
for providing an outstanding display of the beauty of Hawaiian culture through
song and dance to the international audience that experienced the spirit of
aloha in the hustle and bustle of New York City.
