HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING THE KALANI HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM ON WINNING THE 2013 DIVISION I STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, soccer is a free-flowing, team-oriented game requiring a high level of individual strength, stamina, speed, footwork and body agility; and

 

     WHEREAS, soccer is commonly known as football throughout the world and is played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world's most popular sport; and

 

     WHEREAS, 70 Hawaii high school boys soccer teams compete each year for the Division I and Division II State Championship titles; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Kalani High School Boys Soccer Team is renowned for its past success, including  2nd place in the 2012 State Championships, 3rd place in the 2012 Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Season, 2nd place in the 2007 State Championships and OIA, and two recent OIA East League titles; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Kalani High School Boys Soccer Team earned the 2013 Division I State Championship title, defeating Punahou 3-2 in an overtime shootout; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Kalani High School Boys Soccer Team is composed of 30 players, head coach Michael Ching and seven assistant coaches, two athletic trainers, and five managers who individually contributed greatly to the exceptional performance, culminating in six straight wins at the end of the season for the State Championship title; and

 

     WHEREAS, in addition to special recognition by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser for Coach Ching and numerous players on the team, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association named five Kalani High School players to the 11-member All-Tournament Team – Leo Klink (Most Outstanding Player), Noa Maxilom, Steven Teshima, Michael Stafford, and Kazuto Moribe; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates the Kalani High School Boys Soccer Team as 2013 Division I State Champions and extends to the team its warmest aloha and best wishes for success in all future endeavors.
