HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE OUTSTANDING TEACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MILILANI HIGH SCHOOL'S JUDY TAPARRA.

     WHEREAS, education is the foundation of our society and is essential to ensure that our keiki can achieve the highest possible quality of life; and

     WHEREAS, the provision of quality education in our schools is dependent on having hard working and high quality teachers; and

     WHEREAS, JUDY TAPARRA, an alumna and current teacher at Mililani High School, has established herself as an effective and hard working educator; and

     WHEREAS, JUDY TAPARRA has been teaching at Mililani High School for 23 years and has served as an Advanced Placement psychology teacher for 13 of those years; and

     WHEREAS, the Advanced Placement Program allows Hawaii's brightest high school minds to take college-level courses in a unique learning experience that teaches students new ways of thinking and approaching real problems while earning college credits; and

     WHEREAS, JUDY TAPARRA continues to provide an outstanding education for her students through her rigorous Advanced Placement curriculum, teaching her students to become positive individuals, resourceful thinkers, and effective communicators, bestowing them with the tools and encouragement to prepare them for a successful future; and

     WHEREAS, besides being an accomplished Advanced Placement teacher, JUDY TAPARRA also serves as a reader for the Advanced Placement exams each year; and
     WHEREAS, since the year 2000, 90 percent of JUDY TAPARRA'S Advanced Placement students at Mililani High School have earned a score of "3" or higher and 32 percent have earned a perfect score of "5" on their Advanced Placement exams; and

     WHEREAS, Mililani High School students have led the State of Hawaii in the number of students scoring a "3" or above on 389 exams in 2012, which represented just over 32 percent of the Department of Education's 1,200 scores of "3" and higher; and

     WHEREAS, due in part to the commitment and hard work of JUDY TAPARRA, Mililani High School is nationally recognized as a top-ranked public high school and an outstanding educational institution in the State of Hawaii; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes the outstanding teaching accomplishments of Mililani High School's JUDY TAPARRA, applauds her for her commitment to providing an excellent learning environment for our youth, and extends its deepest aloha, appreciation, and gratitude for her contribution to Mililani High School's nationally recognized academic achievements.
