HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENTs OF defense and homeland security TO assess HAWAII'S vulnerability to NUCLEAR ATTACK and the ability of the united states to defend hawaii.
WHEREAS, Hawaii is a central location for strategic purposes with regards to the Pacific region; and
WHEREAS, foreign entities have declared their intent to launch a nuclear attack on the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii geographically is significantly closer to these foreign entities than the continental United States and, therefore, is more vulnerable to attacks by them; and
WHEREAS, the protection of Hawaii's residents is of utmost importance to the State; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, the Senate concurring, that the United States Department of Defense and the United States Department of Homeland Security are requested to work together to assess Hawaii's vulnerability to nuclear attack by foreign nations and other entities and the ability of the United States to defend Hawaii from nuclear attack; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Department of Defense and the United States Department of Homeland Security are requested to submit a report of their assessment to the Governor and the Legislature, including any recommended actions to improve the State's ability to prepare for and respond to such an attack; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the United States Secretary of Defense, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, the Governor, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, and the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
