HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES TO SUBMIT A REPORT TO THE LEGISLATURE ON CURRENT AND POTENTIAL REVENUE GENERATING ACTIVITIES ON STATE-OWNED LAND AT SAND ISLAND.
WHEREAS, finding new and innovative approaches to generate revenue is important to the economic and financial future of our state; and
WHEREAS, Sand Island is state-owned and is managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources; and
WHEREAS, the state-managed park portion of Sand Island is underutilized and shows signs of decay; and
WHEREAS, existing industrial, business, commercial, and marine-related activities on Sand Island would benefit from new business enterprises, expanded commercial use, and development of new piers and berths at Sand Island Park; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Land and Natural Resources is requested to submit a report to the Legislature on current and potential revenue generating activities on state-owned land at Sand Island; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Land and Natural Resources is requested to evaluate the potential challenges and benefits of revenue generation on state-owned land at Sand Island including potential costs, revenue projections, and other issues that may arise; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Land and Natural Resources is requested to submit a report of findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2014; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
