A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO TRANSPORTATION.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the construction of a shared-use (bicycle and pedestrian) pathway along Kahekili highway between East Hui Iwa street and Waihee road would improve the quality of life of Kahaluu residents by helping to promote healthy lifestyles and providing safe, environmentally friendly, non-motor vehicle travel options for residents to commute to nearby parks, schools, and convenience stores.
SECTION 2. The following sums, or so much thereof as shall be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act, are hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii for fiscal years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015:
To be expended by the department of transportation:
Kahekili highway, Oahu
Plans, design, and construction of a shared-use pathway along the mauka side of Kahekili highway stretching between East Hui Iwa street and Waihee road that allows for two-directional bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
Plans $250,000
Design $250,000
Construction $1,000,000
Total Funding $1,500,000
SECTION 3. The sums appropriated for the capital improvement project set forth in section 2 shall be expended by the designated expending agency for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
