The purpose of the informational briefing is to provide legislators and the community with information about the unfunded liability of the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) triggered by the practice of employees to increase their compensation in their final years of employment by working an abnormal amount of overtime to boost their pension benefit, commonly known as “spiking”.
