RELATING TO EDUCATION. Repeals certain operational requirements for student health programs established for a 1970 pilot project. (HB2513 HD1)

RELATING TO STUDENT ACTIVITY FUNDS. Allows public schools to claim student activity funds left in the school by a graduating class immediately after the graduation of the class, rather than five years after the class graduates or upon donation by the graduating class as provided under current law.

RELATING TO ADULT AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION. Clarifies that funding for the adult and community education program shall be from appropriations by the legislature, supplemented by student fees. Establishes the adult and community education program special fund.

RELATED TO EARLY LEARNING. Appropriates funds to the Department of Education to support early childhood education. Effective July 1, 2012. (HB2519 HD1)

RELATING TO JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN. Eliminates junior kindergarten beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Effective July 1, 2014.

RELATING TO INSTRUCTIONAL TIME. Requires the Department of Education to devise four bell schedules each for elementary, middle, and high schools, except for charter schools and public multi-track schools. Repeals the general requirement that all public schools except charter schools and multi-track public schools include one thousand eighty student instructional hours for the 2016-2018 school years. RELATING TO EDUCATION. Requires the Department of Education to establish a performance management system that includes an evaluation component for teachers and educational officers. Requires that teachers entering the service of the Department of Education for the first time serve a minimum probationary period of three years. (HB2527 HD1)

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW
Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing with a transmittal cover indicating:
· Testifier's name with position/title and organization;
· The Committee the comments are directed to;
· The date and time of the hearing;
· Measure number; and
· The number of copies the Committee is requesting.
While every effort will be made to copy, organize, and collate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed to the incorrect office, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the Legislative Web site after the hearing adjourns. This public posting of testimony on the Web site should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
