SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the board of education and the department of education to establish an electronic educational resource program for public school teachers, administrators, and program coordinators.
WHEREAS, within Hawaii's public schools, there is a vast untapped resource of outstanding teacher-developed lessons, units, programs, and curricula; and
WHEREAS, there are many outstanding and highly effective school-centered programs, curriculum resources, and practices; and
WHEREAS, there is little opportunity and few venues for these teaching resources to be promoted to the greater educational community; and
WHEREAS, teachers, administrators, and program coordinators have much to share with, and to learn from, their colleagues; and
WHEREAS, the Internet, through blogs, chat rooms, and other social media, is an easy and low-cost means for teachers, administrators, and program coordinators to share lesson plans, ideas for curricula, teaching practices, and program development, as well as to engage in education-related philosophical exchange; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Board of Education and Department of Education establish an electronic educational resource program to encourage the sharing of lesson plans, ideas for curricula, teaching practices, and program development amongst public school teachers, administrators, and program coordinators; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in developing this electronic educational resource program the Board of Education and Department of Education are requested to look at:
(1) Wikipedia as a model based on its interactivity and dependence on user knowledge; and
(2) Established teacher, administrator, and staff expertise at the school-level; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Education and Department of Education provide a demonstration of the electronic educational resource program to the Chairs of the Senate Committee on Education and the House Committee on Education no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2013; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Education.
