SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing the hawaii agriculture research center for its benefits to the agriculture industry and urging the hawaii agriculture research center to establish the proposed Kunia Agriculture Processing and Sales Center.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center ("HARC") was established to support Hawaii's agricultural industries through research and immediate response teams to solve problems and make improvements in the areas of agronomy and plant nutrition, plant physiology, breeding, genetic engineering and tissue culture, control of diseases and pests through integrated pest management, ground water monitoring, and technical literature searches, among other services; and

 

     WHEREAS, the HARC's has proposed the establishment of the Kunia Agriculture Processing and Sales Center to wash, process, and prepare various agricultural products and produce for sale; and

 

     WHEREAS, the proposed Kunia Agriculture Processing and Sales Center  will utilize vacant land behind an old general store in Kunia and the general store will be used for retail sales of foods and products, including rum made from Native Hawaiian sugar cane from a nearby distillery; and

 

     WHEREAS, the construction and start-up costs for the proposed Kunia Agriculture Processing and Sales Center are calculated to be approximately $1,500,000; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center's be recognized for its benefits to the agriculture industry; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center is urged to establish the proposed Kunia Agriculture Processing and Sales Center; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Executive Director of the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center and the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center.
