A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO BEST BUDDIES INTERNATIONAL.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that Best Buddies International, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989 whose mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Best Buddies Hawaii is a state affiliate of Best Buddies International, Inc. and is dedicated to fostering the social integration of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Expanding Best Buddies Hawaii chapters will enable more of Hawaii's youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities to learn valuable social skills, combat isolation, and gain confidence.

     The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds as a grant to Best Buddies International, Inc., for the purposes of expanding Best Buddies Hawaii chapters to the islands of Maui and Oahu and to provide valuable support to youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $100,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2012-2013, as a grant pursuant to chapter 42F, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to Best Buddies International, Inc. to expand Best Buddies Hawaii chapters to the islands of Maui and Oahu and provide valuable support to youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2012.
