HOUSE RESOLUTION
requesting the Office of Veterans Services to convene a veterans' summit in each of the various counties and a statewide summit to develop and promote collaboration among the public and private entities that provide services to veterans.
WHEREAS, it is estimated that there are more than twenty million veterans who have served in the United States armed forces; and
WHEREAS, there are more than one hundred twenty thousand veterans living in Hawaii, constituting approximately ten per cent of the State's population; and
WHEREAS, there is a broad range of services provided to veterans at the federal, state, and county levels; and
WHEREAS, there are also a number of private organizations that advocate for veterans' rights and benefits while preserving the memory of those who have served in the armed services; and
WHEREAS, further collaboration among the various public and private service providers would improve the efficiency of the provision of services to veterans; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that the Office of Veterans Services is requested to convene a veterans' summit in each of the various counties to develop and promote collaboration among the public and private entities that provide services to veterans; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each county veterans' summit is requested to meet on a quarterly basis and include representatives from appropriate state and county agencies and private organizations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Office of Veterans Services is requested to convene an annual statewide veterans' summit, comprised of delegates from each county veterans' summit, as well as from appropriate federal agencies and private organizations from other parts of the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Director of the Office of Veterans Services, the Adjutant General, the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and the mayor of each county.
