HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING THE UNITED STATES SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION'S STATE OF HAWAII 2012 AWARDEES.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, small businesses are critical to the nation's economic recovery and strength, overall future, and ability to compete in today's global marketplace; every year since 1963, the President has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses, and for this year, the United States Small Business Administration announced the Hawaii winners of the prestigious 2012 Small Business Awards; and

 

     WHEREAS, this body joins the business community in recognizing the noteworthy contributions and outstanding business achievements of the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii awardees; and

 

     WHEREAS, KATHLEEN DAVENPORT of Kathleen Davenport Photography and West Oahu Women's Network, is the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Women In Business Champion for being an outstanding advocate and champion for women's advancement, her full participation in free enterprise and business, and for her passionate and determined efforts in volunteering, networking, and creating opportunities for others; and

 

     WHEREAS, MICHAEL TOKUNAGA of S. Tokunaga Store, is the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Small Business Person of the Year for building on his family's legacy of hard work and determination, ensuring that his family business continues to prosper and grow well into the 21st century; and

 


     WHEREAS, VINCE DYDASCO of SCORE Hawaii is recognized as the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Veteran Small Business Champion; as a veteran himself, he understands the challenges veterans may face; he is committed to focused efforts to expand the outreach, support and training of military personnel transitioning to civilian life and starting new and viable small businesses; and

 

     WHEREAS, DANA HAUANIO of the Honolulu Minority Business Center has been selected as the recipient of the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Minority Small Business Champion of the Year Award for leading an organization that cultivates and supports the entrepreneurial spirit of Hawaii's diverse minority community and providing assistance to small business owners through financial analysis, operations, and management; and

 

     WHEREAS, GLENN KISHIDA of Nexus Trusted Advisors has been named the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Financial Services Champion, a prestigious award that honors individuals who assist small business through advocacy efforts to increase the usefulness and availability of accounting and financial service; and

 

     WHEREAS, CONSTANCE CATE of the Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network – East Hawaii Center is the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Home-Based Business Champion for working to improve the climate of home-based businesses, and helping businesses and individuals improve their performance by providing the skills, tools, and processes that enable businesses and entrepreneurs to increase productivity, sales volume, and profits; and

 

     WHEREAS, SUSUMU OSHIMA of Oshima Bros., Inc., is the recipient of the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Family-Owned Small Business Award, a prestigious award that honors family-owned and operated businesses whose ownership and operations have transitioned from one generation to another; and

 

     WHEREAS, JOHN AND DAISY CARPENTER of Island Slipper Factory, Ltd., are the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Small Business Exporter Champions for focusing in their niche market, reaching out to establish positive brand recognition as well as close relationships with distributors, international designers, and craftsmen, and using creative solutions to manage rising costs of labor and materials; and

 

     WHEREAS, JERRY GUYO of Pacific Ice Services, Inc., has been recognized as the Small Business Administration's State of Hawaii 2012 Young Entrepreneur of the Year, a prestigious award that acknowledges the top performances and contributions of the best small business owners and entrepreneurs; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby congratulates and recognizes the United States Small Business Administration's 2012 State of Hawaii awardees and extends to them its warmest aloha and sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
