HOUSE RESOLUTION
COMMENDING STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., 40TH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, the essence of the "aloha spirit" is epitomized by the selfless efforts and leadership of citizen groups that utilize the intricacies of the democratic process for the betterment of all; and
WHEREAS, since the end of the Second World War, there have been numerous motorcycle riders enjoying the winding coastal and mountain roads, year round warm tropical climate and beautiful scenery that make Hawaii one of the premier motorcycle locations in the world; and
WHEREAS, in 1972, a group of riders gathered in a local motorcycle shop to create STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., with a specific mandate to represent the rights and interests of all motorcyclists in Hawaii regardless of their club affiliations or type of motorcycle they chose to ride; the organization equally embraces all races, colors, creeds, sexes and political persuasions as long as the member displays an understanding and appreciation for the fundamentals of island riding, which includes: extend aloha to fellow riders, respect for other motorists and a commitment to safe, lawful, and courteous riding; and
WHEREAS, for forty years, STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., has remained a non-profit organization actively involved in promoting motorcycle safety and enjoyment through Hawaii state sponsored motorcycle licensing and training programs which promote and enhance motorcycle operating skills and safety consciousness, updating its members and motorcycling community about technical information relating to road safety, motorcycle equipment and gear; the organization has also been politically
active as an advocate against legislation and government policies that restrict the freedom of choice and the rights of riders; and
WHEREAS, STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., actively promotes and supports its members and the motorcycle community by participating in a variety of annual community services and charitable events, including but not limited to: rides and fundraisers for veterans, back-to-school supplies for keiki in need, meals-on-wheels for the aged or infirmed, special fundraising events for injured motorcyclists and their families, and of course the Annual Toy Run that STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., coordinates with the United States Marines Toys-For-Tots program; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby commends and applauds the efforts of STREET BIKERS UNITED HAWAII, INC., on its 40th Anniversary, and expresses its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
