HOUSE RESOLUTION
Recognizing and Commending Jennifer Wong for her Research and achievements in Science, which have led to the discovery of a chemical precursor to liver cancer.
WHEREAS, the future of our State and country depends upon the students of today, for they are the future leaders of the community and should be supported in their every endeavor; and
WHEREAS, the House of Representatives is always proud to salute the achievements of Hawaii's young scholars who demonstrate their abilities in competitions that highlight areas of academic skill and intellectual achievement; and
WHEREAS, JENNIFER WONG is an exemplary student who has distinguished herself at Kapolei High School through active participation in contests, competitions, sports, and clubs; and
WHEREAS, JENNIFER WONG has demonstrated commitment, dedication, and hard work by entering her project, "Human Hepatocellular Liver carcinoma cell line Hep-G2 Cells: Inflammation response", in the 27th Annual Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair, which was held on February 23 and 24, 2012, at Leeward Community College; and
WHEREAS, JENNIFER WONG has a personal connection with this project, since she lost her father to liver cancer; and
WHEREAS, by virtue of her intellect, creativity, competency, and skill, JENNIFER WONG earned distinction at the 27th Annual Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair as the recipient of the Society for In Vitro Biology Award, Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair Best of Cellular & Molecular Biology Award, Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair Finalist Award, and First Place Overall Award; and
WHEREAS, due to her extraordinary research achievements, which led to a first-time discovery — a chemical precursor to liver cancer — people may be able to take advanced action prior to the onset of liver cancer; and
WHEREAS, JENNIFER WONG has advanced to the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair due to this discovery; and
WHEREAS, JENNIFER WONG has become an award winning scholar and serves as an inspiration to the youth of Hawaii since she has overcome loss and personal adversity, including the deaths of her father and brother, and persevered with the support of her mother who has overcome language barriers and worked two jobs to support the family; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby recognizes and commends JENNIFER WONG for her research and achievements in science, which have led to the discovery of a chemical precursor to liver cancer, applauds her inner strength as well as her noteworthy efforts at and contributions to the 27th Annual Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair, and extends to her its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
