HOUSE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING sAMIANN "ALOHA" COLEMAN AS THE 2011 MetLife/NASSP Hawaii High School Principal of the Year, JACQUELYN DAVIS AS THE 2011 NASSP/Vicro Hawaii State Assistant Principal of the Year, JOYCE IWASHITA AS THE 2011 NAESP Distinguished Principal of the Year, AND HOKULANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ENCHANTED LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and HEEIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS 2012 Hawaii Blue Ribbon SchoolS.
WHEREAS, SAMIANN "ALOHA" COLEMAN, the Principal at Leilehua High School, is the 2011 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Hawaii High School Principal of the Year, as a result of her extraordinary dedication to improving the school's culture, which has resulted in greatly improved graduation and faculty retention rates; and
WHEREAS, JACQUELYN DAVIS, the Vice Principal at Maui Waena Intermediate School, is the 2011 National Association of Secondary School Principals/Vicro Hawaii State Assistant Principal of the Year, as a result of her philosophy of "success by design, not luck", positively changing the school's culture and academic environment; and
WHEREAS, JOYCE IWASHITA the Principal of Kalanianaole Elementary and Intermediate School is the 2011 National Association of Elementary School Principals Distinguished Principal of the Year, as under her stewardship, from 2004 to 2010, the proficiency rate for students at Kalanianaole Elementary and Intermediate School rose from 38 per cent to 62 per cent in reading, and from 9 per cent to 47 per cent in mathematics; and
WHEREAS, HOKULANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's motto, "Reach For the Stars", is indicative of the strong emphasis the school places on a holistic approach to elementary education, the pillars of which are family involvement and ongoing improvement by faculty
members, as evidenced by the school's 89 per cent proficiency rate in reading, and 84 per cent proficiency rate in mathematics, exceeding No Child Left Behind performance targets of 72 and 64 per cent, respectively, and meriting HOKULANI's status as a 2012 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; and
WHEREAS, ENCHANTED LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's recipe for success is based upon collaboration among administration, faculty, staff, parents, and students, along with the support of the community, which has led to impressive progression by the student body as a whole, as it achieved proficiency rates in 2010-2011 of 88 per cent in reading and 83 per cent in mathematics, thereby exceeding No Child Left Behind performance targets of 72 per cent in reading and 64 per cent in mathematics, earning the school a Blue Ribbon Award; and
WHEREAS, HEEIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has served the Kaneohe community since 1959, educating generations of students, many of whom have returned to teach and work at the school, demonstrating the community's commitment to education, as exemplified in the student body's achievement of 81 per cent proficiency in reading and 70 per cent proficiency in mathematics, exceeding No Child Left Behind performance targets of 72 and 64 per cent, respectively, and meriting HEEIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL's status as a 2012 Hawaii Blue Ribbon School; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors SAMIANN "ALOHA" COLEMAN, JACQUELYN DAVIS, JOYCE IWASHITA, HOKULANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ENCHANTED LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND HEEIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to all of them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
