A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC HOUSING.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Chapter 356D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part I to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§356D-   Prohibition on smoking. The Hawaii public housing authority may adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to implement a smoking prohibition policy in public housing projects, as defined in section 356D-1, or state low-income housing projects, as defined in section 356D-1."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2050.

Description:

Provides the Hawaii public housing authority with the discretion to adopt rules to prohibit smoking throughout any public housing project and state low-income housing project.  Effective January 1, 2050.  (SD1)
