A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO HEALTH INSURANCE.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a) Notwithstanding the requirement of a referring concurrent resolution pursuant to section 26H-6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the auditor shall analyze the necessity and impact of a proposed mandate to include coverage of on-call motorized wheelchair service and repair, and loaners or rentals while repairs are being made, under each policy of accident and health or sickness insurance, providing coverage for health care, including long-term care, that is issued in this State.  The auditor shall analyze the impact of such a mandate on Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance agencies, and consider alternatives to the proposed mandate, as appropriate.

     (b)  The auditor shall submit a report of its findings and recommendations, including proposed necessary legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the 2012 regular session.

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

Requires the auditor to conduct a study analyzing the effects on Medicaid, Medicare and private insurers of mandating on-call servicing and repairs to motorized wheelchairs and electronic convenience vehicles.  (HB421 HD1)
