A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR THE MOLOKAI IRRIGATION SYSTEM.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  This Act is recommended for immediate passage in accordance with section 9 of article VII of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii.

     SECTION 2.  The purpose of this Act is to make an emergency appropriation for the Molokai irrigation system so that water can be pumped into the system.  Water levels are critically low, perhaps as low as ten feet, and Molokai farmers will not be able to survive the year if low water levels continue.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2011-2012 for the purpose of augmenting the water capacity of the Molokai irrigation system.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
